Back in the late seventies, a group of hot dog hungry business men and friends from St. Louis, led by Herman Fishman, came to Chicago to get food ideas and establish a menu for a venture. The result of their travels and hard work was a little restaurant called Woofies. With the operating partner Charlie Eisen, Woofies took off and has become a fast food icon for nearly three decades. Serving celebrities has become commonplace including a hot dog love affair with native son, Bob Costas, who has managed to import “Woofie Dogs” to the east coast on several occasions.
