When Eddie and Stubby Scatchell started up his little fast food stand back in 1953 in Cicero, Illinois; he probably hadn’t any thought of this popular little place being around for sixty years. That, in fact, has been the case and for the last thirty years, Frankie Levato and Barry Reggi have been running things just fine; expanding the building and fine tuning the menu. They have made Scatchell’s their place and have achieved the status as an iconic neighborhood gem.
With signage that lights up the Cicero night like a Vegas show, their product takes center stage as they have continued to feature the same clean place with their homemade recipes and consistency. Their Italian Beef, sausage and pizza, as well as the Vienna Beef connection of hot dogs and polish sausage have been the stars of the menu and the show. Frankie and Barry even have many of the same reliable people working for many years, like Mena, who came directly from Italy, and Peter, Christina and Sergio. Their community involvement and dedication to their customers truly makes Scatchell’s a special kind of place. Besides many satisfied regulars; celebrities like Joe Mantegna and the Food Network’s, Jeff Mauro, have become real fans.
Now its Vienna’s turn to say thanks to Frankie, Barry and their staff and welcome Scatchell’s Beef, Pizza and Dogs into the Vienna Beef Hot Dog Hall of Fame. From all of us at Vienna Beef, we say congratulations and send best wishes for much continued success.
