Woofie’s
1919 Woodson Rd
St Louis, MO.63114
Back in the late seventies, a group of hot dog hungry business men and friends from St Louis, led by Herman Fishman, came to Chicago to get food ideas and establish a menu for a venture to bring a true Chicago style hot dog stand to the gateway city. The result of their travels and hard work was a little restaurant called WOOFIES.
The operating partner was robust and enthusiastic Charlie Eisen, under whose care, Woofies took off and has become a fast food icon for nearly 3 decades. Serving celebrities has become commonplace including a hot dog love affair with native son, Bob Costas, who has managed to import “Woofie Dogs” to the east coast on several occasions.
Featuring the best of Vienna Beef products and other Chicago style specialties and creations, Paul Fitzgerald has continued the tradition. Paul lives nearby, and having been a regular customer that loved Woofies, decided to buy the place and continuing the legacy started by Charlie, Herman and the rest of the gang.
It is with great pride and, certainly, our pleasure that Vienna Beef acknowledges and welcomes Woofies as a member of the Vienna Beef Hot Dog Hall of Fame. From the entire Vienna Beef family, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for continued success.
